The Board of Control for cricket in India has taken a strict decision on heavily time consumption during IPL matches in 2021. The BCCI said that the 20th over must be finished in 90 minutes, while previously the 20th over was start by the 90 minutes and because of heavy time consumption BCCI has taken this decision.

No Soft Signal

The BCCI has also removed the rule of soft signal from IPL 2021, according to new rule the on field umpire soft signal will not applicable to move to third umpire decision. BCCI said both on field umpire require to take help of third umpire to make any decision. The third umpire shall determine whether the batsman has been caught or not, whether the delivery was a NO ball, or if the batsman will fully obstructed the field.

In case of a close catch, the third umpire will use all the technological support available to them. The third umpire shall communicate his/her decision to both on field umpire. The bowler end umpire should take any decision after consulting with striker end Umpire After that they can go to the third umpire.

The BCCI has also modify the short run call by the umpires. It has authorised the 3rd umpire to overrule the on-field umpire’s decision on cutting down a run off the batting team’s total. There was a major controversy previous year during a Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Delhi Capitals game in which a false Short Run call by the square leg umpire proved demonstrate for the Punjab side.
